Welcome to Aiken Localvore.

We hope you find the features here helpful, our discussions interesting, our projects important and will bookmark our site for future reference.

We hope you will become interested in the localvore movement, and spend at least $10 on local produce from your farmers market weekly. Maybe you can give some your time to help us accomplish our projects.  We are always looking for good volunteers. And you don't have to have any experience in farming or gardening. Just a desire to help your community prosper while enjoying healthy, tasty and local foods.

Our mission is to ensure that all citizens have adequate quantity and quality of food, and work with consumers, producers and government to promote and nurture the growth and development of local agriculture and its related businesses.

The 100 Most Celebrated Farmers Markets will be showcased from the celebration’s homepage. The final Top 100 will receive a special seal that they can put on their outreach materials in the coming years.

DID YOU KNOW...

We lose more than an acre of farmland to development every minute in the United States and 35 acres per day in South Carolina!!

The message is simple and couldn't be more clear—America's farms and ranches provide an unparalleled abundance of fresh, healthy and local food, but they are rapidly disappearing.

Ninety-one percent of America’s fruit and seventy-eight percent of our vegetables are grown near metro regions, where they are in the path of development. And America has been losing more than an acre of farmland every minute. That's why supporting local food and farms is more important than ever!
